50,000 hand hygiene posters to primary schools in Germany

GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY | Hand washing is the easiest and most effective means of preventing transmission of influenza viruses of all kinds, amongst them the H1N1 swine flue virus. This autumn SCA has equipped primary schools nationwide in Germany with 50,000 free Tork hand hygiene posters.

Boy washing his handsThe Tork hand hygiene posters show in a playful manner with the help of appealing cartoons, what is important when you wash your hands:

  • soaping (without forgetting the space between your fingers and around your fingernails),
  • careful rinsing
  • and drying of the whole hand.

The educational material also includes extensive work books with drawings and exercises explaining what’s up with bacteria and viruses, and how simple hygiene works. The posters have been created by the Tork School for Hand Hygiene in cooperation with the Research Centre for Health Education at the University of Cologne, Germany.

Hand hygiene must be learned

Thousands of students have already learned the elementary rules of hygiene by using the Tork material. “Proper hand washing must be learned, just as we are being taught proper teeth brushing,” says Klaus Klein, professor at the University of Cologne.

"Children learn the most important and basic things in the elementary school. That’s where our hygiene teaching material comes into play."

“Children learn the most important and basic things in the elementary school. That’s where our hygiene teaching material comes into play”, says Markus Stojan, Regional Director at SCA in Central Europe.

“We have ensured that our materials awake the natural curiosity of children and make learning more fun. We see sharing our knowledge as part of our social commitment. Therefore, we now offer our posters for free to primary schools,” elaborates Markus.
